Last night I had horrible nightmares about the earthquake hitting Vancouver. I have a huge fear of the earthquake happening at a time when I’m separated from my family. In my dream, our family was together (thankfully), but I was still terrified.

This is the one thing I hate about living here. It’s on a fault line. Who the hell builds a city on a fault line? Mild weather be damned. I literally live in fear of the earquake. Even though I’ve resigned myself to living here, I still have fantasies of moving elsewhere - preferrably somewhere that’s not an earthquake zone.

I know, I know, natural disasters happen everywhere, but gosh, when the earthquake finally hits, it’s going to decimate Vancouver.

i understand the worry, but i also think that it's fruitless to stress about it too much. those dreams are scary though. have you ever had a prophetic dream before? maybe i should be re-stocking our earthquake emergency supplies!

I have nightmares about tornadoes, which doesn't make much sense since I live in New Orleans. But New Orleans is technically below sea level, so we're doomed if we ever get a really bad hurricane. It's really only a matter of time.

Better not come to New Zealand then - practically the whole country is a fault line - and Wellington (the capital) is sitting on a viper's nest of fault lines!

Strange it is always on the back of my mind when I'm in Vancouver, yet when I'm in Chile, where the ground moves all the time, I seem to not notice. I wonder if it is because like you I think of my family.

Who knows when it will happen, but one thing is certain it is simply a question of time. Victoria will be much harder hit than Vancouver. As for the Tri-cities area, they are mostly on solid granite and far from the ocean, so little to be concerned about.

WHOA, maybe I should reconsider my dream to move to portland or seattle, if mild weather= fall line. They just recently had an earthquake or tsunami. But I figure if i live like 30 miles away from either of these cities, i'll get all the benefits of beautiful weather year-round, while avoiding the ground shakes. That I can't imagine getting used to.

i can dream can't i.
