To those of you who were wondering how my carnivorous plant is helping to alleviate my fruit fly situation - it isn’t. That plant is like the cat that runs away from mice. I’ve had it for almost a month, and it hasn’t even caught one measly fly. I’ve even tried killing a few flies and placing them on the leaves of the plant - just to get the party started, so to speak. Still, nothing. Zilch. Nada. Maybe it’s just not hungry?

Leach the soil? but wouldn't that be cruelty to plants? :,)

LOL! Actually it's a bog plant, so it grows in nutrient poor soil. The flies that I put on the leaves disappeared quite quickly, so maybe the plant has been eating after all, and I just haven't noticed?
