Nov. 21st, 2004 03:16 pmWe watched The House of Sand and Fog last night. It has just ousted Midnight Cowboy to make the top three of the top three most depressing movies I’ve ever watched.
As far as depressing goes, I would rank them:
1. When the Wind Blows
2. Basquiat
3. The House of Sand and Fog
Unlike When the Wind Blows, and Basquiat, and Midnight Cowboy, all of which I loved, and would highly recommend, however, I would say that The House of Sand and Fog was totally disappointing. It’s too bad, really. I loved the premise, and I love Ben Kingsley, and I was loving the movie for about the first two thirds, but then the heroine, started to really piss me off, as did her highly unlikely deputy sheriff boyfriend of one week. The whole thing degenerated from there, and the end was a complete mess. I’m not annoyed with the tragedy of it, but seriously I’m annoyed by the convoluted side storylines that basically ruined what was essentially a good story.
