It's poll time again.

One of my quirks is that I'm a shower person. I've never understood the appeal of baths. To me they're boring and annoying. The same thing goes for whirlpools, and hot tubs etc. They get a big shoulder shrug from me.

My back has been aching like crazy lately, so my dh suggested that I hop in the bath to relax. Ugh!

So now I'm curious. Is my distinct shower preference a unique quirk, or are there others out there like me?

Baths are awkward and boring. I don't love showers either, but they're a far more efficient way to get clean.

I do like hot tubs though, so go figure.

I find plenty of relaxation in the shower. In the bath, you wind up sitting in your own dirt and leg shavings and whatever. How is THAT relaxing?

Recently rediscovered the joy of baths. I used to soak for a long time but now it's all about getting clean and there is something I really, really like about it. However, it is water-wasteful (my showers are short and I measured the consumption one day by plugging the drain) so I think showers for most people are really a more responsible way to get clean; however for your condition floating might really take the pressure off.

One thing that helps me relax in baths is actually submerging completely, like scootching down so my head's underwater except my face. Drowns out sound and come to think of it, relaxes the back.

I hope your back feels better soon.

Baths are dirty!

Ok, I picked other because it depends entirely on my mood or what I'm doing. If I want to get *clean* I take a shower. Sitting in a puddle of dirty, soapy, dead skin cells water is not how we get clean. So a shower is what I do most of the time.

However, if I'm bathing to relax (or try and find some solitude *HAHAHAHA* then I looooove the tub. For me, the bathtub is a place where I can lie down, soak my achy body and READ. I mean, where else can I read uninterrupted for a few measly minutes? :P
So in the bathtub, there is no soap and no leg-shaving. Sometimes I put epsom salts (especially if I'm pregnant as I'm the poster-girl for swelling in pregnancy) or a nicely-scented oil in the water...but that's it. And I do NOT wash my hair in the bath.

I shower most days because its quick. I like the occasional bath to soak, relax, efficiently apply something to all of my skin, get scented, etc if I can get over my self image issues and get in the tub. I know logically that shaving is better on your skin if you soak first, but I hate the unclean feeling of doing it in the tub. So... I used to do this much more often when I was younger, but still do occasionally, soak in the tub for the above reasons, then shave, then stand up & shower off. Not terribly water use friendly, but nice nonetheless.

You have no "both" option, so I chose Other. There are times when I need and want a shower - I find that showers get me cleaner better, and they tend to be less time-consuming. I spend the majority of my bathing time in a shower. But! When the bathtub is squeaky clean, and I need to get away for some relatively-inexpensive alone time that doesn't require me to get dressed up (or hell, even dressed), then I run a bath, pour in some bubbles, get myself a glass of wine, put some nice music on the radio, and I soak. And think. And dream. Works for me, though I can surely see why it wouldn't work for everybody.

Wow. Okay, obviously I'm in the minority here because I love baths. I don't think they're dirty at all. Hot water is pretty much all you need to get clean, and the water (with dead skin cells and dirt) sloughs off your body when you stand up and dry yourself. Plus, actually soaking in water gets you cleaner than rubbing yourself under a sporadic spray.

Showers are quick and efficient. I rarely take baths, but I love love love them. They're relaxing and much better than showers for aiding sore muscles. And you can add rose petals or tea leaves to make them smell nice!

Baths baths baths.

I don't get the "baths are dirty" thing either.

I think one of the reasons I prefer baths to showers is that I've lived in so many places with horrible showers, or bad water pressure, or both. Showers also seem to promote mould growth more than baths do.

Also, baths don't have to be boring! You don't have to sit there for hours. I just run the bath, get in, wash myself, and get out. I'm way faster in the bath than [livejournal.com profile] uon is in the shower.

I voted for shower but only because that's ordinarily what I take every day out of sheer getting-to-work-on-time-edness.

But every morning, as I stand in the shower in those few moments between turning on the faucet and then hitting the little shower-pull-tab thing, when the water is gushing out of the faucet, I stare at it and long to plug the drain, lay down, and soak for a good 30 minutes or so.

When I have time, bath is always my option--HOWEVER: I never only take a bath; what I'll do is just lay in the tub until the water starts to cool down uncomfortably, and then I'll get up and actually take a shower to get clean.
