So has anyone else noticed a trend in the produce aisle lately? There seems to be an overwhelming amount of produce coming from Mexico. It's virtually impossible to find locally grown peppers or tomatoes these days. Can anyone tell me what's up? Even the organic stuff is coming from Mexico. Some of it is labeled as BC Greenhouses, and then in fine print it says grown in Mexico. I don't adhere strictly to the hundred mile diet, or anything, but I try to buy local when I can, and certainly don't think that greenhouse produce needs to come from two countries away! Is this a supposed NAFTA benefit or something? Pffft!

I can hardly wait until the summer when I can make my beloved nightshade soup ratatouille on a weekly basis with lovely fresh, LOCAL produce.

there's a raging trend happening here called "Farmer's markets" ...usually held once a week or twice per month and they're markets that only sell homegrown/homemade fresh produce. delicious!!

Yes, farmer's markets. That what I was referring to when I mentioned the fresh local markets. They're wildly popular up here too. They've been around for ever (I remember going to them as a kid), but there has definitely been a marked increase in popularity in the last few years. Do yours go year 'round? Ours run from May to October. I can hardly wait!
