Even though it has been over eight years since I quit smoking, I’m dying for a cigarette. WTF?

it's been nearly three years for me. if i get a craving i immediately wonder what's happening in my life that needs my attention that i'm trying to distract myself from.

It's a stressful time. It makes sense that you'd experience cravings now . .

it's been ten years for me, in july. i still tend to lurk near smokers so i can breathe their pollution.

Having the house more or less to myself this week is KILLING me. Also it is dark and rainy. Perfect when-I-was-smoking weather.

It's been almost a year.

I dream about cigarettes during stressful periods of my life. And then of course I crave them when I wake up.

My mom quit in 1978 and still has occasional cravings. That shit messes with our brains, I think. Inhaled nanotechnology microchip implants or something.

Weird!

It's been... seven months for me? And I still kind of savor it when I walk past someone who's smoking. Which is probably still bad for the baby, but I figure it's better than smoking myself!

Well, the whole watching my grandfather die a painful death from lung cancer was a pretty big motivator to not start when I was in high school. When I was in junior high, the only kids who smoked were creepy & freaky (and not in the good freaky way) so I really didn't feel much desire to join 'em.

I didn't mean that I condone smoking, I don't! I have never smoked either, I just thought it was funny the way you said it. Sorry to hear about your grandmother. :(

No worries. It happened a long time ago. I've moved on. But it's definitely what I think about when I see smoking. That and the gross smell.

I have a good friend that is in a weight loss program with Kaiser. He goes to weekly support group meetings. Well, he shared with me last week that the instructor asked them to close their eyes and think of a "woosh" moment in life and go back to it. A moment in which he felt overly happy, a memory that can always be brought back with the happy and overwhelming emotions that were felt then as well. He is to do this every time that he starts craving the junk food that he shouldn't be eating, and when he recalls his "woosh" moment, he's to realize how insignificant that slice of pizza, or brownie really is in comparison with that wonderful moment in which he was truly alive and happy. I have taken that idea and made it my own as well. I have been smoking on and off for 8 years now and today I oficially quit. My parents' 31st wedding anniversary is today, they are 60 and 56 and they have never in their life smoked cigarettes or drank (a lot), so I have made the decision that I won't help shorten my life, since they worked so hard for my sisters and I.

Sorry for the long comment, but I thought I'd help motivate you to stay away from them :) I'll try to myself as well.
