I thought that I must have heard wrong, or been given some wrong information, but sadly upon further investigation, I discovered that in fact, parents of children in Canadian schools, and being encouraged to complete the identification kits that include a sample of the child’s fingerprints and DNA. Are you F**king kidding me? Perhaps I’m more of a conspiracy theorist than I realized, or perhaps I’m more protective of my right to privacy than I realized, but there’s no way in hell I would agree to having my kid’s DNA catalogued for supposed ID purposes. What a crock.

Ridiculous paranoia just perpetuated by the media.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Soon they'll be proposing RFID chip implants for all kids. I swear, it's only a matter of time.

By paranoia, I am referring the impulse to collect DNA.

The ID kits that parents are encourgaged to complete for their children include a recent photo, finger prints, and a hair sample pulled from the root for DNA. I know I'm reaching in saying that this information will be catalogued or put into a database, I imagine the hair sample is just stored, and used only if necessary (althougth I'm not 100% sure), it still seems like a very slippery slope to me, and a massive invasion of privacy. And I figure, in the unlikely event that my child is kidnapped, and the body is later found in a state that is so decomposed that they can only ID the body via DNA, then they should be able to identify whether or not the child is ours by taking our DNA at that point. To me, it's starting to feel like our society is en route to an Orwellian nightmare.
