How do you handle stress? This is how I handle it:
I have several phases. First I freak out and speak really loudly - not yelling really, it’s more as though I’m punctuating every single word - and gesticulate excessively, curse, and bemoan my dreadful luck.
Then, I mope. I freeze, unable to move or process any information I just sit there. I can’t even bear to have anyone speak to me - it’s information overload.
Next, I break down the issues, and start making lists - these usually get lost somewhere (generally in the dreaded “safe spot” that I can never find), and are never actually used, but the process seems to calm me down somewhat.
Finally, I set the plan in motion. I tweak the strategy, line up the players, and get things moving. This phase resembles phase one a lot in that I seem quite wound up and my arms are usually flailing all over like I’m trying to catch my balance, except in this case, the adrenaline gives me a happy rush, and I feel powerful and in control and unstoppable.
