A Milestone, of Sorts

Today, I found my first grey hair. It was white, actually, and wiry. Well, I guess my husband will soon discover that I wasn't joking when I told him years ago, that I refused to be a slave to a bottle of colour, and that when it was time for me to go grey, then I was going to roll with it.

I just didn't realize that it would be so soon. It's another reminder that I'm not a kid anymore. I haven't been for ages, and I haven't been able to pass as one for ages. Depending on how fast this progresses, I may soon have people guessing my age as older than I actually am instead of younger.

I had always hoped that I would take after my grandfather who only had a handful of greys by his late 70s. Evidently, I take more after my grandmother. Of course, stress doesn't help, I'm sure...

I've been seriously grey for years.

That's me, about two years ago. My hair is currently dyed ridiculous red (because I like red, and because white hairs lend themselves to vivid colour without major effort), but the regrowth is much whiter now. I really like my grey.

one grey hair in mid-30's wouldn't bother me. if i'm 40 before I have a head full I'll be doing pretty good. at least I'll have hair? female baldness runs in my family. :P

I saw a woman with grey hair who looked great on the tube yesterday. She had black curly hair in a messy pony tail with lots of white hairs in the mix and it looked great.

I think whether you flaunt it or hide it is a very personal thing. I am about 1/6 or 1/7 grey. On my wedding day it was its natural colour w/white hair and everything because I did not have time to get my hair done. But I don't think it looks bad.

The texture annoys me more than the colour. Wiry and very wavy. It's like having two kinds of hair. I don't get it!

Women in my family tend to look pretty good with grey hair. I started turning grey in my 20s and so I don't really think much about it anymore!

Finding greys has been freaking me out more than you can know! So I WILL be a slave to the colour. :p My hair is one of my few vain things. I see too many youngish yet old before their time women around here who are all frumpy and dumpy, and I'll be honest the grey hairs don't help. I think if you take the time to be stylish and "youthful" in your appearance, some grey or all grey doesn't matter. But when the whole package is downhill then yeah not so much.

I found my first grey in my mid-twenties (a decade+ ago) but I've been going more and more grey since my early 30s. I'm 38 now and I have a fair amount of it. I don't cover it up and I have been told I was "brave" for keeping it grey. I think a lot of women start to cover it up and then end up feeling trapped by the constant upkeep. That's just my thought, though. You should definitely do what feels right.
